Anthurium Papillilaminum × Carlablackiae Anthurium papillilaminum × Anthurium carlablackiae A cross between two dark velvet species of Panamanian lineage. A. papillilaminum contributes thick, muscular, papillose-velvety leaf substance, ribbed and winged petioles, and deep mahogany emergent coloration; A. carlablackiae — the compact Panamanian understory species closely related to dressleri — brings near-black mature pigmentation, ridged burgundy petioles, and pink emergent venation. The cross concentrates the dark velvet character of both parents, producing deeply pigmented, velvety leaves with contrasting venation that darken toward near-black as the plant matures. Individual seedling expression varies. Light: Medium to bright indirect light — both lineages prefer gentler light; the carlablackiae parent is intolerant of prolonged high light, and consistent soft light supports the deepest dark pigmentation. Avoid direct sun. Soil: Very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; never waterlogged. TemperatureHumidity: Warm but not hot temperatures between 65-80°F; avoid prolonged heat above 82°F. High humidity of 70-80%+ is essential for the velvet surface quality and cleanest leaf emergence. Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully. Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer supplemented with calcium every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
