The rosette sword, or Echinodorus parviflorus Tropica, is a popular and relatively easy-to-care-for aquarium plant, suitable for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike.  

Here's a guide to its care:

1. Planting

Substrate: Plant the Rosette Sword in a nutrient-rich substrate. Since it's primarily a root feeder, root tabs are highly recommended, especially when using an inert gravel substrate.

Depth: Plant the roots deeply, ensuring the crown (the base of the leaves) remains exposed above the substrate.

Spacing: Allow at least 8 inches of space between Rosette Swords to provide adequate room for growth. 

2. Lighting

Requirements: Rosette Swords thrive in moderate to high lighting conditions.

Duration: Aim for 10-12 hours of full-spectrum light per day.

CO2: While not strictly necessary, CO2 injection can significantly boost the growth rate and overall health of the plant. 

3. Fertilization

Root Tabs: Rosette Swords are heavy root feeders, making root tabs the most effective way to provide them with essential nutrients like iron, nitrogen, and potassium.

Placement: Place root tabs directly beneath the plant, allowing the roots to efficiently absorb the nutrients.

Liquid Fertilizer: Liquid fertilizers can supplement the nutrients provided by root tabs, addressing deficiencies that may occur in the water column.

Iron: Supplemental iron fertilization can enhance robust growth and prevent yellowing leaves. 

4. Water parameters

Temperature: Maintain a stable water temperature between 72-82°F (22-28°C).

pH: Rosette Swords are adaptable, but a pH range of 6.0-8.0 is generally recommended.

Hardness: They can tolerate both hard and soft water, with a recommended hardness of 2-12 dGH. 

5. Maintenance and pruning

Trimming: Regularly remove older leaves, especially if they are covered in algae, using sharp aquascaping scissors.

Size Control: To control the size and shape of the plant, remove side shoots and older leaves. 

6. Propagation

Runners: Rosette Swords primarily propagate through runners or side shoots that develop from the base of the plant.

Separation: Once sufficiently large, these runners can be carefully separated and replanted to create new plants.
