Product Description:

Hoya onychoides is a rare, highly distinctive species native to Borneo, celebrated for its elongated, claw‑like corolla lobes that give the flowers a fierce, almost predatory appearance. The blooms are typically deep red to burgundy, glossy, and sharply reflexed, forming umbels of 10–20 flowers that look like a cluster of lacquered talons. The foliage is equally attractive: narrow, lanceolate leaves with a leathery texture and a deep green sheen. This species is a favorite among collectors who appreciate dramatic floral architecture and unusual morphology within the genus.

Origination: Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak), lowland tropical forests

Historic Uses: Ornamental collector’s species prized for its unusual flower structure

Height: Vining stems can reach 6–10 feet with support

Growing Instructions:

Hoya onychoides thrives in bright, filtered light and high humidity (60–80%). Use a fast‑draining, airy substrate such as orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. Water when the top layer of the mix begins to dry, keeping the roots lightly moist but never waterlogged. Maintain temperatures between 70–90°F, avoiding cold drafts. Provide a trellis or allow the plant to climb naturally. Fertilize lightly during active growth with a balanced or bloom‑boosting formula. This species appreciates consistent warmth and humidity and may refuse to bloom without them.

Ships in 3.5" pots. You will receive a plant similar to the ones pictured, though size and fullness may vary. A few broken leaves or small stems are normal during shipping and are not considered damage. Broken stems can be rooted once the cut end dries to start new growth. Plants may arrive semi‑dormant, and in winter they may naturally drop a few leaves. If your plant arrives rotting or dead, we will replace it. Please contact us with photo proof within 24 hours of delivery. After 24 hours, plant care becomes the buyer’s responsibility, though we’re always happy to answer questions and help you succeed. We also add brief instructions on getting started when you open your box. We want our plant babies to have happy new homes! 🥰 

Heat packs are available to purchase in our shop for cold-sensitive plants. Keep in mind some plants we carry are very tropical and even cold, not freezing, temperatures can kill them. 📌IF YOU EXPECT COLD WEATHER, PLEASE PURCHASE A HEAT PACK! 📌 These are necessary for winter shipping, so I sell them at cost. I won't refund or replace any frozen plants unless you buy one!
