☀️ Light – Thrives in bright, indirect light to keep those fiery tones glowing.

💧 Water – Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy. This plant will be shipped to you in our homemade semi-hydro set up! (Sphagnum Moss, pumice, orchid bark & biochar for anti-compactionaeration, fungal mitigation above a LECA-clay balls- water reservoir). You can transition to whatever medium you like best, Chunky Aroid mix is a great option! Once transitioned- less is more! Allow the top 2-3 inches to dry between waterings.

‘Red Sun’ is a tropical hybrid from Southeast Asia, not found in the wild.

Young leaves of Philodendron ‘Red Sun’ emerge in vivid red or orange due to anthocyanin pigments, not chlorophyll. Unlike green chlorophyll, which absorbs blue and red light to power photosynthesis, anthocyanins reflect red wavelengths, giving the leaves their fiery color.

This coloration serves several purposes in plants:

Photoprotection: Anthocyanins act as a natural “sunscreen,” protecting delicate young leaves from intense light and UV damage until chlorophyll production is sufficient for full photosynthesis.

Herbivore deterrence: Bright red leaves can signal unpalatability or toxicity, reducing the chance of being eaten by insects.

Stress adaptation: Red coloration can appear in response to environmental stress, including sudden changes in light or temperature.
