Philodendron Silver Sword Variegated A variegated form of Philodendron hastatum — the Silver Sword Philodendron, native to Brazil — known for its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves with a distinctive silvery-blue metallic sheen. The variegated form overlays this with cream, white, or pale green sectors and marbling, each leaf uniquely patterned against the silvery ground. A climbing hemiepiphyte that develops larger, more sword-like leaves as it matures on a support. Variegation is unpredictable across successive leaves and slower-growing than the standard form. Light: Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the variegation and the silvery-blue coloration; insufficient light causes reversion, while direct sun scorches the lighter sectors. Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged. TemperatureHumidity: Warm temperatures between 65-82°F; humidity of 60-70% supports the best growth and cleanest leaf emergence. Avoid cold drafts below 60°F. Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog — variegated forms are more sensitive to root stress.
