Product description

Taxiphyllum 'Flame', commonly known as Flame Moss, is a captivating moss variety

named for its signature upward-twisting growth pattern that resembles flickering

flames. Originating from Southeast Asia, this species stands out among aquatic

mosses due to its vertical spiraling fronds, which give a bold, dynamic texture

to aquascapes. Its unusual growth form makes it a favorite for creative

hardscape detailing and vertical accents.

In aquascaping, Flame Moss is incredibly versatile. It is most commonly attached

to driftwood, rocks, or mesh, where its flame-like appearance can be emphasized.

Its slow, upright growth makes it ideal for creating moss "trees," moss-covered

pillars, or textural highlights along horizontal hardscape features. Its deep

green coloration and three-dimensional structure add contrast and depth to

planted layouts, especially in Nature Aquarium and forest-style designs.

Flame Moss thrives under low to moderate lighting and does not require CO₂

injection, though both light and CO₂ will accelerate growth and improve health.

It prefers stable water conditions and gentle flow to avoid debris buildup. Like

most mosses, it absorbs nutrients primarily from the water column, so regular

dosing with micronutrients will support lush, dense growth.

Care involves minimal trimming to maintain shape and prevent overgrowth. It

should be attached with thread, mesh, or plant glue, and allowed time to anchor

naturally. Avoid burying the moss in substrate, as it can lead to decay.

Care Tips:

* Substrate: Not required; attach to hardscape using mesh or thread.

* Lighting: Low to moderate; high light can increase algae risk without CO₂.

* Temperature: 20–28°C (68–82°F)

* pH: 6.0–7.5

* Nutrients: Low to medium; benefits from regular micronutrient dosing.

* Propagation: Divide and reattach portions; spreads slowly by creeping growth.
