What are Edison pearls?

Edison pearls are the newest type of freshwater cultured pearls to hit the market recently. They have thicker nacre, larger in size, and rounder than other freshwater cultured pearls. They also have luster that's comparable to more expensive South Sea and Tahitian pearls. The reason Edison pearls are comparable to South Sea and Tahitian pearls is because they are nucleated by beads like the South Sea and Tahitian pearls. In contrast, normal fresh water cultured pearls are nucleated by tissue. Finally, if you wonder why they are called "Edison" pearls, it's because the famous inventor Thomas Edison once said "There are two things which couldn’t be made at my laboratory — diamonds & pearls." The creators of this pearl decided to name the pearls "Edison" in honor of him.
