✦ THE PLANTRY PLANT CO. ✦
"The Hoya multiflora is something of an outlier in the Hoya family — and I mean that as the highest compliment. While her cousins are content to vine and trail, the Shooting Star grows upright, almost shrub-like, with an architectural dignity that sets her apart on any shelf. And when she blooms? Extraordinary." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
The Hoya multiflora — commonly called the Shooting Star Hoya — is an upright, semi-bushy Hoya with elongated glossy leaves and pronounced veining that gives each leaf a certain botanical formality, as if pressed and catalogued by a Victorian naturalist. Unlike most trailing Hoyas, this one grows with architectural structure.
But the real theatre comes when she blooms — and bloom she will, more readily than most Hoyas. The flowers are extraordinary: clusters of white, reflexed petals that sweep backward like tiny shooting stars, each with a dark center that looks hand-painted. It is one of the most rewarding blooms in the houseplant world. This rooted starter carries 6–8 glossy leaves on a sturdy stem with well-spaced paired growth.
