Alocasia Bisma Aurea Care

(Suitable for growers anywhere in the USA)

Alocasia Bisma Aurea is a stunning variegated form of Alocasia bisma, featuring thick, blue-green leaves splashed with yellow, lime, and cream variegation. It is generally easier and more forgiving than many jewel Alocasias and develops an impressive, upright form with maturity.

☀️ Light

* Provide bright, indirect light.

* A few hours of gentle morning sun are beneficial.

* Avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch variegated areas.

* Adequate light helps maintain strong Aurea coloration.

💧 Water

* Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil begin to dry.

* Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.

* Avoid allowing the plant to sit dry for extended periods.

🌱 Soil

Use a chunky, airy mix:

* 40% potting soil or coco coir

* 30% orchid bark

* 20% perlite or pumice

* 10% worm castings

Excellent drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

🌡️ Temperature

* Ideal range: 68–85°F

* Avoid temperatures below 60°F.

* Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

💨 Humidity

* Prefers 60–80% humidity.

* Adapts well to average household humidity with good airflow.

* Higher humidity encourages larger leaves and healthier growth.

🌿 Fertilizer

During active growth:

* Feed every 2–4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength.

* Reduce feeding during winter or periods of dormancy.

🪴 Potting

* Repot every 1–2 years.

* Use a pot only slightly larger than the root ball.

* Clear nursery pots work well for monitoring root health.

Dormancy

Growth may slow during cooler months:

* Reduce watering frequency.

* Maintain warmth and bright light.

* New growth should resume in spring.

Common Problems

SymptomLikely Cause

Yellow leavesOverwatering or natural leaf aging
