Product description

Alocasia Jacklyn Aurea Care

This is one of the more dramatic and collectible Alocasias — those jagged “dinosaur” leaves plus aurea yellow variegation make it a total flex plant. It can also be a little dramatic if conditions swing too hard.

Light

* Bright indirect light

* Needs strong light to maintain healthy growth and variegation

* Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun — aurea sections scorch easily

* Grow lights work extremely well

Water

* Keep evenly moist but not wet

* Let the top inch dry slightly between waterings

* Do NOT let it stay bone dry for long

Jacklyns are especially prone to root issues if kept soggy and cold.

Humidity

* Loves 60–80% humidity

* Higher humidity helps prevent crispy edges and warped leaves

* Benefits greatly from cabinets or greenhouse conditions while young

Temperature

* Ideal range: 70–85°F

* Hates cold drafts

* Can decline quickly below 60°F

Soil

Very chunky airy mix:

* Orchid bark

* Perlitepumice

* Coco chips

* Small amount of potting mix

You want oxygen around the roots at all times.

Fertilizer

* Feed lightly during active growth

* Balanced fertilizer every 2–4 weeks at half strength

* Flush occasionally to prevent salt buildup

Common Issues

* Yellowing lower leaves = often overwatering or stress

* Crispy edges = low humidity or underwatering

* Curling leaves = thirst, cold, or root stress

* Small leaves = insufficient light or nutrients

Dormancy

Jacklyns can partially or fully dorm if:

* Temps drop

* Soil stays cold

* Lighting decreases

If it goes dormant:

* Reduce watering significantly

* Keep warm

* Don’t throw away the corm unless it’s mushy

Pro Tips

* Stable warmth is EVERYTHING

* Aurea variegation often means slower growth

* Keep airflow moving to avoid fungal issues

* These love semi-hydro setups if transitioned correctly

Toxicity

* Toxic if ingested by pets or humans due to calcium oxalate crystals
