Caladium Peppermint Care
This is a flashy caladium with speckled peppermint-style coloring — usually white, pink, and green splashing all over the leaves. It thrives in warmth and humidity and absolutely loves summer growing conditions.
Light
* Bright indirect light is best
* Can tolerate gentle morning sun
* Avoid harsh afternoon sun or the leaves can scorch
More light usually = better color.
Water
* Keep soil evenly moist while actively growing
* Never let it sit soggy
* Let the top layer dry slightly between waterings
Caladiums are thirsty during active growth but rot fast in cold wet soil.
Humidity
* Loves humidity
* 60%+ keeps leaves lush and prevents crispy edges
* Great greenhouse or patio plant in warm climates
Temperature
* Ideal temps: 70–90°F
* Hates cold
* Growth slows dramatically below 65°F
Soil
Use a loose, moisture-retentive mix:
* Potting soil
* Perlite
* Coco coir or peat
* Small amount of bark optional
Fertilizer
* Feed every 2–3 weeks during active growth
* Balanced diluted fertilizer works well
* Don’t overfeed or leaves can burn
Dormancy
Caladiums naturally go dormant.
Signs:
* Leaves yellowing
* Plant collapsing back
When dormant:
* Reduce watering heavily
* Keep tuber warm and mostly dry
* Restart watering when new growth appears
Common Problems
* Crispy edges = low humidity or underwatering
* Yellow mushy stems = overwateringcold soil
* Faded colors = not enough light
* Drooping = thirst or dormancy beginning
Pro Tips
* These EXPLODE with growth in warm weather
* Excellent patio or greenhouse plants
* Rotate often for even growth
* Tubers can be stored over winter if dormant
Toxicity
* Toxic to pets and humans if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals
