The Nepenthes Alata aka pitcher plants have elongated hour glass shaped pitchers with colors from green to burgundy. The pitchers form with closed lids until they are ready to eat, then the top opens emitting a pheromone while making the liquid inside able to be consumed by insects. The bottle shape makes it difficult for insects to leave and they are eventually dissolved by the plants juices. Pitcher plants thrive in a humid warm brightly lit environment keeping its soil somewhat moist. Pitcher plants will naturally have less pitcher production in the winter due to lack of as many bugs in the winter and a natural dormancy period for plants.
These plants are growing in a 4” hanging basket.
