The 'Dark Form' is the more elusive cousin of the 'Moonlight', known for its dramatic, lance-shaped leaves that range from a deep forest green to nearly ink-black. Unlike many other vining aroids, this variety lacks any silver variegation, giving it a sleek, structural appearance. While the 'Dark Form' is quite hardy, its main weakness is overwatering. Because it grows slowly, it doesn’t "drink" as quickly as a Pothos or Philodendron, making a well-draining setup essential.
Light
Ideal: Bright, indirect light (near an east or north window).
The "Dark" Factor: To keep the leaves that signature inky, near-black color, avoid direct sun, which can bleach the foliage or cause it to turn a lighter olive green. It can handle lower light than the 'Moonlight', but it will grow even slower.
Watering & Soil
The Thirst Signal: Wait for the leaves to curl inward slightly before watering. This is the plant's way of telling you the soil is dry.
Drying Out: Always let the top 50-75% of the soil dry out. If the soil stays damp for more than 10 days, it is at high risk for root rot.
Soil Mix: Use a "chunky" mix. A blend of potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite (1:1:1 ratio) works best to allow oxygen to reach the roots.
Humidity & Temperature
Climate: It thrives in typical home temperatures (65°F–85°F). Keep it away from cold AC drafts or heating vents.
Humidity: While it appreciates 50%+ humidity, it is much more tolerant of dry air than other rare aroids. You don't necessarily need a humidifier unless your home is exceptionally dry.
Growth Support
Climbing vs. Trailing: In the wild, these are climbers. If you give it a moss pole or cedar plank, the leaves will naturally get larger and darker as it climbs. If left to trail from a hanging basket, the leaves will remain smaller.

Man if I could give 12 stars I would. Not only is she the most wholesome and honest person, she’s also so freaking funny. Her lives have brought me so much joy and I’m SO excited about my new babies. This gorgeous HUGE alocasia was packaged perfectly and arrived happy and healthy! I also got two other plant babies and SO MUCH SWAG! Guys she’s awesome, give her a follow. Thank you so much for my order Tara, and as always thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country. Much love, AA❤️
