Unusual antique octagonal metal foot or carriage warmer featuring ornate pierced and embossed decoration throughout. The top has an especially beautiful openwork floral urn design surrounded by a raised dotted border. Decorative side panels feature additional pierced detailing, and the piece has two hinged access doors and a large arched carrying handle.
These portable warmers were designed to contain a heat source and provide warmth around the feet, particularly during cold-weather travel or in unheated spaces.
The metal has a dark aged patina with oxidation, discoloration, surface wear and residue consistent with considerable age and previous use. Interior shows additional oxidation and deposits. Doors and handle remain present. Please review all photos carefully for condition.
