The Aglaonema 'Mahanakorn' (often spelled Mahanakhon) is a striking Thai hybrid prized for its intense coloration and compact growth habit. It is a standout variety within the "Red Aglaonema" group, known for its ability to maintain vibrant hues even in lower light conditions.

Appearance and Features

• Coloration: The leaves are primarily a deep, fiery red or hot pink. Unlike some varieties where the red is just an accent, the 'Mahanakorn' often features solid red leaf blades with a thin, dark green margin and occasional green speckling near the midrib.

• Leaf Shape: The foliage is broadly ovate to lanceolate, typically growing in a dense, bushy rosette. The leaves have a glossy, waxy texture that makes the red pigments appear more luminous.

• Size: It is considered a mid-sized cultivar, generally reaching about 10–18 inches in height, making it ideal for tabletops or bright corners.

Care Profile

• Light: While Aglaonemas are famous for low-light tolerance, 'Mahanakorn' requires medium to bright indirect light to maintain its intense red color. If the light is too low, the new leaves may emerge more green than red.

• Water: It prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. Water when the top 25-50% of the substrate is dry. Like most aroids, it is sensitive to overwatering and "wet feet."

• Substrate: Thrives in a well-draining, airy mix. Many collectors find success using a chunky aroid blend or mineral-based substrates (like PON) to ensure oxygen reaches the roots.

• Temperature & Humidity: It prefers warm environments (65°F–80°F) and benefits from moderate humidity, though it is much more resilient to average home humidity than many other tropical plants.
