Hoya lacunosa 'Laos Full Splash' is one of those plants that surprises you every time it puts out a new leaf. This rooted cutting with new growth in a 2-inch pot is a selected clone of the species Hoya lacunosa, chosen for its exceptionally heavy silver splash. Fresh leaves emerge looking almost translucent before hardening off into a dazzling mix of green and silver, and under bright light they often develop beautiful pink to purple sun-stressed tones. Add in the species' famously fragrant flowers and vigorous growth, and it's easy to see why this has become one of my favorite lacunosa forms to grow. Hoya lacunosa 'Laos Full Splash' Care & Details Origin: Hoya lacunosa is a species native to Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. It was first scientifically described by Carl Ludwig Blume in 1826 from material collected in Java. 'Laos Full Splash' is a cultivated clone selected from plants originating in Laos for its exceptionally heavy silver variegation (splash). It is not a hybrid. Scientific reference: Blume, C.L. (1826). Bijdragen tot de Flora van Nederlandsch Indië. Leaves: Small, narrow, slightly succulent leaves densely covered in silver splash. New leaves often appear almost translucent before maturing, giving the plant an especially striking flush of fresh growth. Under bright light, the foliage commonly develops attractive pink to purple sun stress, making each vine more colorful over time. Flowers: Produces clusters of fuzzy, cream to white flowers with yellow centers measuring approximately 5–8 mm across. Like many forms of Hoya lacunosa, the blooms release a sweet perfume that's strongest during the evening hours. Individual flowers typically remain attractive for around a week, and mature plants often bloom repeatedly from the same peduncles. Growth Rate: Fast-growing when provided with bright light, warmth, and consistent care. Watering: Allow the potting mix to approach dryness before watering thoroughly. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet. Light: Thrives in bright indirect light. This plant has performed well approximately 8 inches beneath double Barrina T5 lights for 14 hours per day. Brighter conditions can enhance splash and encourage pink-purple sun stress coloration. Ideal Temperature & Humidity: Prefers temperatures around 75°F with humidity levels of 60–65%. General Hoya Care: Use a chunky, well-draining mix, provide good airflow, avoid overwatering, and fertilize lightly during active growth.
