Hoya panglai (Inner Variegated) is a foliage collector’s Hoya with bold, unpredictable center variegation that makes every leaf different. The leaves can combine deep green margins with irregular shades of cream, white, and lighter green through the center, while some leaves may emerge much greener than others. Your plant arrives as a rooted cutting with new growth in a 2-inch pot, so you can enjoy watching its distinctive variegation develop as it matures. Hoya panglai (Inner Variegated) Rooted Cutting Care & Details Leaves: The main attraction is the dramatic inner variegation. Based on the plants I grow, the elongated, pointed leaves can develop broad cream-to-white areas through the center, surrounded by irregular bands and margins of green. Some leaves may be heavily variegated while others remain predominantly green, giving the plant a naturally varied appearance. The foliage is substantial and somewhat succulent rather than thin and delicate, although individual leaf shape and variegation will vary from plant to plant. Growth Rate: In warm, humid conditions with strong light, this Hoya can put out new growth steadily once established. As with many highly variegated plants, growth may vary depending on how much chlorophyll is present in each vine and leaf. Your plant is sold already rooted with new growth, giving it a head start compared with an unrooted cutting. Watering: Allow the growing medium to dry significantly between waterings, then water thoroughly. Pay attention to the plant rather than following a rigid schedule—the small 2-inch pot can dry considerably faster than a larger container, particularly under warm grow lights. A chunky, airy medium helps provide the roots with both moisture and oxygen while reducing the risk of prolonged sogginess. Light Requirements: Give Hoya panglai (Inner Variegated) plenty of bright light to support healthy growth and its highly variegated foliage, while avoiding sudden exposure to intense direct sun that could damage the pale portions of the leaves. I grow this plant successfully under Barrina T5 lights. The cream and white areas contain less chlorophyll than the green portions, making good light particularly important for a heavily variegated plant. Ideal Temperature & Humidity: I grow Hoya panglai successfully at approximately 85°F with 70–75% humidity. These warm, humid conditions encourage active growth in my environment. If you grow it in lower household humidity, acclimate it gradually, and pay close attention to watering, since your plant may dry at a different rate. General Hoya Care: Grow in a chunky, fast-draining medium with good airflow around the roots, provide plenty of bright light, and avoid keeping the growing medium continuously saturated.
