Product description

Omothymus sp. 'Valhalla' (Emerald Shadow Tree Spider) When it comes to Asian arboreal species, it is truly hard to beat the Valhalla. Adults display jet black legs and abdomen contrasted by a deep emerald green carapace (head) and long orange hairs running across the body, with mature males eventually turning a solid emerald green across the legs, carapace, and abdomen. This legendary old world tarantula for sale has taken the hobby by storm since its introduction, and it is easy to see why. Why do hobbyists keep Omothymus sp. 'Valhalla'? Stunning Coloration: Jet black legs and abdomen paired with a deep emerald green carapace and long orange hairs create a look unlike anything else in the hobby. Drastic Color Change: Slings start out darker with longer orange hairs, lightening with age while keeping darker striping, and mature males eventually turn a solid emerald green. Heavy Webber: Builds extensive silk retreats, especially once established in a tall arboreal setup. Rare in the Hobby: Still extremely limited and highly sought after, a genuine centerpiece species for serious collectors. How should Omothymus sp. 'Valhalla' be kept? Adult Size: Reaches about 6 inches at full leg span, with some reports of specimens pushing past 7 inches. Enclosure: Choose an enclosure at least twice the leg span in width, depth, and height, with vertical cork bark and anchor points for webbing. Temperature: Keep between 65 to 75 degrees F. Humidity: Keep the lower substrate slightly moist while allowing upper surfaces to dry between waterings. Good ventilation matters more than maximizing moisture for this species. Water: A shallow textured water dish works well, something they can grip when climbing out. Diet: Crickets, roaches, or mealworms sized to about a quarter of the leg span, matching the width of the carapace (head). Feed at least once a week. Temperament: Defensive, it carries a medically significant bite typical of old world species, so this is a display only animal. We do not encourage or recommend handling with any of our tarantulas, old world species especially. Are there any additional notes or considerations? Sexual Dimorphism: Mature males turn a solid emerald green across the legs, carapace, and abdomen, distinct from the darker females. Delayed Gratification: This is a species that takes time to show its full color, but the wait is genuinely worth it. Captive Bred: All Tarantulas are 100% captive bred.
