An absolute pinnacle of rare jewel Alocasia collecting, this mutation takes the plush, light-absorbing obsidian surface of the classic 'Black Velvet' and shatters it with an extraordinary pastel presentation. The thick, rubbery, heart-shaped shields feature their signature dark, charcoal-black coloration but are heavily broken up by erratic blocks, marbled splashes, and stunning half-moon sectors of soft bubblegum and rose pink. The pale silver-white structural venation pierces directly through these pink fields, creating an incredible multi-toned, high-fashion contrast.
☀️ Light: Bright, Indirect. Requires strong, exceptionally well-filtered ambient light or high-quality grow lights to maintain the striking pink variegation and keep the plant compact. Strictly protect from direct sun, which will effortlessly bleach or burn the delicate, variegated pink sectors.
💧 Water: Allow to dry out significantly. Drench thoroughly only when the top 40% to 50% of the substrate is completely dry. Because of its semi-succulent, thick petioles and slow-growing nature, it has very low tolerance for over-watering; a stagnant medium will quickly trigger corm and root rot.
☁️ Humidity: 65%–80% (Moderate to High). Elevated ambient humidity is highly recommended to help the new, thick leaves glide out of their protective sheaths cleanly without catching, tearing, or developing dry margins.
🪴 Substrate: Premium, ultra-chunky aroid mix. A highly aerated blend of coarse orchid bark, perlite, pumice, and chunks of horticultural charcoal ensures lightning-fast drainage and maximum root zone oxygenation.
Grower's Note: Because the 'Black Velvet' pink mutation is chimeric, variegation can be highly variable from leaf to leaf. Monitor the color striping along the main stem and petioles closely to gauge the plant's long-term stability. Maintain a highly consistent climate—sudden drops in temperature or watering extremes can cause it to drop lower leaves or retreat into dormancy.
