This is a summer-growing species native to the arid Chaco and Monte regions of Argentina. It grows actively during the warm, rainy summer months and requires a strictly dry, cool dormancy during the winter to prevent rot and encourage spring flowering.
Origin: Northern Argentina, primarily in the provinces of Catamarca and La Rioja. It is found in the arid region extending from north of the Salinas Grandes in Catamarca to the east of Sierra Mazán in La Rioja. It typically grows in flat, salt-influenced sandy or silty soils, often partially buried in the ground.
