Lithops Care 101 –

Lithops (a.k.a. “living stones”) are desert succulents that thrive on neglect and dryness—

Their biggest threat? Too much water. Here’s how to keep them healthy:

Light

Bright, indirect sun is best.

• Outdoors: Morning sun or filtered light

• Indoors: A sunny windowsill works well

Water –

Only water when the plant is wrinkling and the soil is bone-dry—typically once every 3–6 weeks.

Never water while it’s splitting.

Do not water at all until roots have formed.

Let them rest on top of dry, gritty substrate and root naturally—this may take several weeks.

Soil

Use a fast-draining, sandy or gritty mix.

Avoid anything that holds moisture.

Pot

Shallow pots with drainage holes (like terracotta) are ideal.

Airflow

Good airflow helps prevent fungal issues and rot.

Pro Tip:

With Lithops, less is more.

When in doubt, skip watering—these desert gems store everything they need inside their chubby little bodies.
