In 4” pot rooted and growing beautifully! The Mangave 'Snow Leopard' is a hybrid succulent, part of the Walters Gardens MAD ABOUT MANGAVE® collection. It's a striking, low-maintenance, and drought-tolerant plant prized for its variegated foliage.
Appearance and growth
Foliage: The plant forms a compact, evergreen rosette of long, lance-shaped leaves. The deep blue-green leaves are lined with creamy white margins. Darker spots cover the leaves and appear pinkish on the margins.
Color enhancement: UV light intensifies the foliage's spotting and distinctive colors.
Size: It typically reaches 16 to 18 inches tall and spreads 22 to 24 inches wide.
Flowers: In late summer, tall spikes emerge from the rosette, bearing lightly fragrant green flowers with red and yellow accents.
Care and maintenance
Light: The plant needs full sun for optimal color and growth, which translates to at least six hours of direct sunlight per day.
Water: As a succulent, it is very drought-tolerant and requires infrequent watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and reduce watering in the winter.
Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix designed for cacti or succulents. Adding perlite or sand can improve drainage.
Hardiness: It is hardy in USDA zones 8 to 11. In cooler climates, it can be grown in a container and brought indoors to protect it from frost.
Toxicity: The plant's sap can cause skin and mucous membrane irritation. It is also harmful to pets if ingested. It is best to wear gloves when handling.
Pests: 'Snow Leopard' is generally pest-resistant but should be monitored for mealybugs or scale insects.
Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed with a diluted, balanced fertilizer once a month. Avoid over-fertilizing.
Uses and special features
Use cases: Its colorful and compact form makes it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, and containers.
Low maintenance: This plant requires minimal care once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping and water-wise gardening.
Pest resistance: It is naturally resistant to deer and rabbits.
Companion plants: It pairs well with other succulents that enjoy similar conditions, such as Stonecrop (Sedum), Blue Chalksticks (Senecio), Hens and Chicks (S
