For rooting, you can optionally dip it in rooting hormone to encourage faster root development then you must prepare well-draining cactus soil and gently insert the calloused end about one to two inches deep into the dry soil. At this stage, do not water the cutting. Place the pot in a warm spot with bright, indirect sunlight. After about a week, you can begin watering lightly, but only when the soil is completely dry—overwatering is a common cause of failure. Roots typically begin to form within three to six weeks. You’ll know it’s rooting when you feel resistance if you tug gently on the cutting. Once rooted, gradually introduce the cactus to more sunlight. Patience and careful watering are key to successful rooting.
