These crushed shells are carefully cleaned, and great to use as part of your substrate or a top layer for hiding. The different shapes of all the shell pieces create perfect nooks for isopods to hide, feel safe, and maintain ideal humidity pockets. Over time, isopods will also nibble on the shells, offering some extra variety in their diet and enriching the soil overtime with breakdown. Pecan shells also break down slowly, providing long-term structure and organic material that in turn support beneficial microbes and detritivores like isopods.
