*Melocactus amoenus* is a solitary spherical or columnar plant belonging to the genus *Melocactus* in the family Cactaceae. It is native to the mountainous regions of Venezuela and Colombia at an altitude of about 1,000 meters. Its epidermis is blue-green to gray-green, with high and distinct ridges, usually with 1-2 ridges[1][2]. The broad and flat flower seat at the top is covered with white down and reddish-brown bristles, resembling clouds floating on the top of the sphere, hence the name "layered cloud". The flowers are pale red, about 2.5 cm long, and are hidden in the flower seat after flowering. It can tolerate a low temperature of 5℃ in winter, but needs to be kept above 8℃ for overwintering[2], making it suitable as a potted ornamental plant.
