SPECIAL SHIPPING SURCHARGE $16 NOTE: four plants in this massive pot! The Philodendron Paraiso Verde (also known as Philodendron 'Marina Ruy Barbosa') is a fast-growing, variegated climbing aroid prized for its elongated, marbled leaves.
Origin & Characteristics
Origin: Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, specifically collected from the wilds of French Guiana and Brazil.
Growth Habit: An epiphytic climber that can reach lengths of 10 feet or more when provided with support like a moss pole.
Foliage: Features long, narrow, heart-shaped leaves (up to 12–15 inches) with irregular, "painted" variegation in shades of forest green, lime, and creamy yellow.
Unique Trait: Its variegation is highly temperature-dependent; leaves produced in warmer weather (above 80°F) are typically more vibrant, while cooler temperatures can cause new growth to emerge solid green.
Care Summary
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Insufficient light leads to smaller leaves and loss of variegation, while direct afternoon sun can scorch the foliage.
Water: Use the "soak and dry" method. Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Avoid letting it sit in standing water to prevent root rot.
Soil: Requires a chunky, well-aerated mix (e.g., equal parts potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite) with a slightly acidic pH (5.0–6.0).
Temperature: Prefers a warm range of 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.
Humidity: Best at 60–70% humidity. Use a humidifier or pebble tray if your indoor air is dry.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer monthly at half-strength during the spring and summer growing season.
Safety: Toxic to humans and pets if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals.
