Superficial Neoregelia Bromelaid in 4” pot ready for the season! Thw last picture is my mom’s plant not for sale. The variegated 'Fireball' bromeliad (Neoregelia 'Fireball' Variegated) is a stunning and compact tropical plant known for its low-growing, clumping rosettes and bright foliage. It's a popular choice for terrariums and as a houseplant due to its ease of care and year-round color.
Key characteristics
Appearance: This bromeliad features a rosette of strappy leaves, which show a striking contrast of green and creamy stripes. In bright, indirect light, the foliage will develop vibrant red and burgundy blushes. The intense colors, which give the plant its "fireball" name, will fade to mostly green if the light levels are too low.
Size: It is a miniature variety, reaching about 6 to 8 inches in height. It spreads readily by sending out offsets on stolons, or runners, to form a dense, cascading clump.
Flowers: The flowers are not the main feature but are still a charming addition. Small, bluish-white or lavender flowers form in a cluster within the central "cup" of the plant.
Pet-friendly: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe addition to homes with pets.
Care and cultivation
Light: Provide bright, indirect light for at least a few hours each day to maintain the vibrant colors. An east- or west-facing window is often ideal. Avoid direct, intense sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water: Keep the central "cup" or tank filled with clean water, such as distilled or rainwater, to prevent mineral buildup. Flush and refill the cup every few weeks to prevent stagnation and rot. The roots serve primarily as an anchor, so only water the soil lightly after it has become dry.
Soil: As an epiphyte, this bromeliad is not particular about soil, as long as it is loose and drains well. An orchid mix containing bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss is an excellent choice.
Humidity and temperature: These tropical plants appreciate high humidity and good air circulation. While they tolerate average household conditions, misting or using a pebble tray can be beneficial. Temperatures between 60–80°F (15–27°C) are ideal.
Fertilizer: Fertilize sparingly, if at all. Use a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer (such as orchid food) once or twice during the spring and summer growing season. Do not apply fertilizer directly into the central cup.
