Melopoeus sp. "Bach Ma" (Bach Ma Earth Tiger Tarantula) This rare Vietnamese Earth Tiger comes out of the highland forests of Bach Ma National Park — recently reclassified from Cyriopagopus to Melopoeus per the 2026 World Spider Catalog revision. The carapace is a rich gold, with gold striping running down a jet black abdomen and black legs with bright gold banding at the joints. It's one of the more visually impressive species in the Earth Tiger group and a serious grab for Old World collectors. Why hobbyists keep Melopoeus sp. "Bach Ma": Coloration — Gold carapace, black abdomen with gold striping, and jet black legs banded in gold at the joints. The contrast is striking even among other Earth Tigers. Feeding Response — Nocturnal ambush predator. Feeds readily at the burrow entrance on crickets, roaches, and mealworms. A disappearing spider is a well-fed spider. Adult Size and Presence — Reaches 5-6 inches. Fossorial and heavy-bodied with a serious Old World presence. You won't see it often, but when you do it's impressive. Fossorial Behavior — A true deep burrower that will build elaborate tunnel systems given enough substrate. Watching their excavation work over time is one of the most rewarding parts of keeping this species. Care Overview: Enclosure — Deep substrate is non-negotiable. 6-10+ inches of packable moist substrate for juveniles and adults. Prioritize depth over floor space. Secure lid required -- this is a fast, defensive Old World species. Temperature — 72-84°F. Room temperature in the low-to-mid 70s works well for most keepers. Humidity — 65-75%. Keep lower substrate layers moist with a humidity gradient. Overflow the water dish slightly during maintenance for a consistently damp corner. Diet — Feed weekly for slings, every 7-10 days for adults. Pre-kill prey for slings under 0.5". Temperament — Old World defensive. Fast, defensive, and not for handling. Appreciate through the glass. Additional Notes: Spiderlings do well in small fossorial enclosures with deep packable substrate. Cross-ventilation at the top only -- no side vents that dry out the lower layers. Keep a water dish filled at all times at every size. This is an intermediate to advanced species best suited for keepers who have already kept New World tarantulas and are comfortable with faster, defensive species. The biggest mistake is keeping the enclosure too dry -- this species comes from humid highland forest. Captive bred. Grab this rare Old World tarantula for sale while stock is available -- Bach Ma doesn't come around often so grab this species today!
