Description & Rarity:

Pothos ‘Manjula’ is a beautiful variegated Pothos cultivar known for its broad, heart-shaped leaves and distinctive cream, white, silver-green, and multiple shades of green variegation. Unlike the streakier appearance of Marble Queen, Manjula often develops large creamy sections surrounded by irregular green margins and painterly speckling. Originally developed and patented by the University of Florida, Manjula is more collectible than standard Golden Pothos but is now moderately available. Highly variegated, mature specimens are especially striking.

Light:

Provide bright, indirect light for the strongest growth and best variegation. Gentle morning sun is usually tolerated, but avoid intense afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the creamy portions. Manjula tolerates medium light but may grow more slowly and produce greener foliage.

Water:

Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of substrate have dried. Allow excess water to drain completely. Manjula generally prefers drying slightly between waterings rather than remaining constantly wet. Overwatering is one of the most common causes of problems.

Humidity:

Average household humidity is usually sufficient, although 50–70%+ humidity encourages lush growth and healthy foliage. Good airflow is beneficial when humidity is high.

Temperature:

Ideal temperatures are 65–85°F (18–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below approximately 55°F.

Soil:

Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing ingredients such as orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coirchips, and quality potting mix. Good drainage helps prevent root rot.

Fertilizer:

Feed with a balanced fertilizer at ¼–½ strength every 2–4 weeks during active growth. Reduce feeding when growth slows.

Variegation:

Every leaf can produce a different combination of cream, white, and green. Variegation can fluctuate naturally between leaves. Bright indirect light helps maintain attractive variegation, while insufficient light may encourage greener growth. Highly cream or white sections contain little chlorophyll and may brown more easily than green tissue.

Growth Habit:

Manjula is naturally a climbing and trailing vine. It can cascade beautifully from a hanging basket or shelf, but allowing it to climb a moss pole or plank can encourage progressively larger, more mature foliage.

Propagation:

Propagate from stem cuttings containing at least one healthy node. Cuttings can be rooted in water, sphagnum moss, perlite, or another moist, airy propagation medium. Once a healthy root system develops, transfer to your preferred substrate.

Toxicity:

Contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and small children.
