Tropical plant lovers, this one’s for you—I’m releasing a very limited number of pups from my personal patch of Musa gracilis ‘Leyte White’, one of the rarest and most striking ornamental bananas around.
Despite the name, this variety isn’t from the Philippines—it’s from Malaysia, discovered by Mark Collins and Alan Carle. According to Zingiberales expert Tim Chapman, “Leyte” is actually a clever nod to “light”—this form stood out in the wild for its pale bracts among darker relatives.
Why it’s special:
•Compact, ornamental, and show-stopping
•Rarely seen in cultivation—almost nonexistent in the trade
•Naturally propagated—not tissue culture
•Grown in full sun and tropical conditions
