Hoya ‘Mayumi’ (UPT002) Rooted Cutting Care & Details Origin: Hoya ‘Mayumi’ (UPT002) was selected and named by Unsolicited Plant Talks from a batch of seedlings produced by an open-pollinated Hoya ‘Noelle’. Because it was open-pollinated, ‘Noelle’ is the known seed parent, while the pollen parent is not identified. UPT named the selection after Mayumi, their Shiba Inu. Hoya ‘Noelle’ itself is an established cultivar originally selected in Hawaii and was published by Carol Noel in Asklepios in 2004. It has been described as a suspected Hoya vitellinoides × Hoya vitellina cross; additional cultivar history is available through the International Cultivar Registration Authority for Hoya. Leaves: UPT describes ‘Mayumi’ as having medium-sized leaves. One of its most appealing characteristics is how strongly the foliage responds to lighting: lower light produces deep, dark green leaves, while stronger light can bring out additional coloration. Mature examples also show prominent venation and contrasting dark margins, giving the foliage plenty of visual interest even when the plant is not flowering.
