The Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas) is a hardy, hardworking algae grazer and one of the best utility tangs for reef aquariums. Its brown-to-tan body with fine yellow speckling and a dramatic sail-like dorsal fin gives it a subtle, sophisticated look that darkens beautifully with age. Constantly picking at rockwork, it helps keep hair algae and film algae in check, making it as functional as it is attractive.Reef-safe and generally peaceful, the Scopas Tang does best in tanks of 100 gallons or more with plenty of swimming room and live rock for grazing. Feed a varied diet rich in marine algae — nori, spirulina, and quality herbivore preparations — supplemented with meaty foods. Avoid housing with other Zebrasoma tangs unless introduced simultaneously in larger systems.
