The species was formally published by American botanist Elmer D. Merrill in 1918 in the Philippine Journal of Science, Section C, volume 13, page 331. Kew Science's Plants of the World Online recognizes the botanical name as Hoya pubicalyx Merr. The Albo, Splash plant offered here is an outer-variegated form with white variegation along the leaf edges as well as splash across the green portions of the leaves. Leaves: Features elongated, moderately thick, succulent leaves with creamy white outer variegation along the margins and splash markings scattered across the green center of the leaf. The thick, waxy foliage helps the plant store moisture and provides ornamental appeal even when not in bloom. Flowers: Produces clusters of star-shaped flowers with a fuzzy texture and shades of pink to deep reddish-purple. The blooms are often lightly fragrant, especially in the evening. Individual flower clusters can last for several days to a few weeks under favorable conditions.
