Syngonium ‘Green Splash’

Description & Rarity:

Syngonium ‘Green Splash’ is a collectible arrowhead vine prized for its gorgeous tone-on-tone green variegation. Leaves can display irregular splashes, mottling, marbling, and speckling in shades ranging from pale mint and lime to medium and deep forest green. Each new leaf can develop a completely different pattern. It is less commonly encountered than standard green Syngoniums and is especially attractive to collectors who love subtle, camouflage-style variegation.

Light:

Provide bright, indirect light for compact growth and the strongest contrast between the different shades of green. Gentle morning sun is usually tolerated, but avoid intense afternoon sunlight. It can tolerate medium light, although growth may become slower and the variegation less pronounced.

Water:

Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of substrate have dried. Allow excess water to drain completely. Keep moderately moist during active growth, but never allow the roots to remain constantly wet or waterlogged.

Humidity:

Prefers 50–70%+ humidity, although established plants generally adapt well to average household conditions. Higher humidity encourages lush growth and helps new leaves unfurl smoothly.

Temperature:

Ideal temperatures are 65–85°F (18–29°C). Avoid cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below approximately 55–60°F.

Soil:

Use a chunky, airy, well-draining aroid mix containing ingredients such as orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coirchips, and quality potting mix. The substrate should retain some moisture while allowing plenty of oxygen around the roots.

Fertilizer:

Feed with a balanced fertilizer at ¼–½ strength every 2–4 weeks during active growth. Reduce feeding when growth slows. Periodically flush the substrate to prevent fertilizer-salt buildup.

Variegation:

Green Splash produces naturally variable coloration, so the amount and pattern of variegation can change from leaf to leaf. Bright indirect light generally encourages the best contrast. Because even the lighter portions contain chlorophyll, Green Splash is typically a vigorous grower compared with heavily white-variegated Syngoniums.

Growth Habit:

Young plants tend to remain compact and bushy, but Syngoniums naturally become climbing or trailing vines as they mature. Providing a moss pole or other vertical support can encourage larger leaves and more mature foliage.

Propagation:

Propagate from stem cuttings containing at least one healthy node. Cuttings root readily in water, sphagnum moss, perlite, or another moist, airy propagation medium. Warm temperatures and elevated humidity can encourage faster rooting.

Toxicity:

Contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and small children.
