A Green Legacy
Marianne, a resident of the Pacific Northwest, grew up surrounded by plants, thanks to her mother’s impressive collection of orchids and African violets. “I feel like a house will never be complete without any sign of green,” she says, reflecting on the influence her mother had on her love for plants. However, it was during the pandemic, while working remotely, that Marianne’s hobby blossomed into a full-fledged collection.
From the Tropics to the Pacific Northwest
Originally from the Philippines, Marianne has a natural affinity for tropical plants. Despite living in Washington state, where the climate isn’t ideal for many tropical species, she has successfully turned her home into a mini jungle. Her collection boasts a diverse array of tropical plants, particularly from the aroid family. “I’m drawn to amazing crosses and species of anthuriums, but I also love other plant genus like monstera, hoya, cacti, and orchids,” she shares.
Discovering Palmstreet
Marianne discovered the platform early on, back in August 2023 when it was still known as PlantStory, introduced by NextWorldExotics. She was quickly captivated by its ability to connect her with unique plants and sellers. “The app always feels like there’s a new hybrid that pops up every now and then from a new shop I would check out,” she explains.
A Constantly Evolving Collection
Choosing a favorite plant from her collection is no easy task for Marianne. “In general, my favorite tends to change depending on my mood,” she says. Whether it’s an emerging anthurium or whichever plant is growing the fastest, her favorites are always shifting. Recently, she’s also delved into collecting crystals, expanding her collection through Palmstreet.
