Cibotium barometz, commonly known as the Golden Chicken Fern, is a striking terrestrial fern native to the tropical and subtropical forests of East and Southeast Asia, easily identified by the dense, soft, golden-brown hairs covering its rhizome. To thrive, this fern requires a consistently moist, well-draining substrate and a high-humidity environment, as its delicate fronds are prone to browning in dry air. It performs best in bright, indirect light, avoiding harsh direct sun which can scorch the foliage, and prefers stable temperatures between 65-85°F.

Because it is a slow-growing species that can reach significant sizes in its natural habitat, providing a rich organic potting mix and ensuring the rhizome is never allowed to fully dry out are essential for maintaining its prehistoric aesthetic. Auction is for the EXACT PLANT pictured. Ships wrapped in damp moss. Ships Monday 4/20/26.
