Anthurium (Papillilaminum × Portiliae) × Fort Sherman Variegated is a seed grown offering from a heavily variegated Indonesian mother plant, sourced directly from our supplier in Indonesia. 'Fort Sherman' refers to a legendary clone of Anthurium papillilaminum, collected by Jay Vannini in the 1980s near the former US Army base of the same name along the northern end of the Panama Canal in Colón Province, and prized in cultivation for its elongated, ultra velvety black leaves with golden to reddish veins. This cross brings that Canal ecotype pedigree together with papillilaminum × portiliae parentage on the seed side, from a mother plant that carries strong sectoral variegation across its own foliage. This particular seedling does currently show signs of variegation itself, since chimeral variegation is not reliably inherited and often skips individual seedlings even from a heavily variegated parent, but it carries the genetics to potentially express it as the plant matures, or to pass it on in future breeding.
