Alocasia baginda ‘Dragon Scale’ Albo variegated is a striking selection of the classic Dragon Scale, distinguished by irregular white or cream sectoring layered across the leaf’s naturally deep green, heavily textured surface, an effect that makes the plant’s signature raised, scale-like venation stand out even more dramatically against the lighter patches. The species originates in the rainforests of Kalimantan, Borneo, where it grows as a compact understory plant in shady, consistently moist conditions on well-draining forest soils, and belongs to the group of smaller collector-focused aroids affectionately known as “jewel Alocasias,” prized for intricate leaf detail rather than overall size. Unlike the straight Dragon Scale or the cooler-toned ‘Mint’ form, the Albo variant is a mutation that arose in cultivation rather than in the wild, and because variegated tissue lacks chlorophyll, it’s a slower, more demanding grower that needs brighter indirect light than its non-variegated counterparts to stay vigorous and hold its patterning.

TC plants are grown in a laboratory environment on nutrient-rich agar and have not yet been acclimated to greenhouse or household growing conditions. Upon receipt, buyers will be responsible for the acclimation process, including removal from the culture media and transition to appropriate humidity and growing conditions.
