Anthurium hookeri Pink Variegated is a striking selection of the classic “bird’s nest” Anthurium hookeri, distinguished by irregular pink, cream, and green sectoring or marbling layered across the plant’s broad, leathery, slightly rippled leaves, an effect collectors often describe as “halfmoon,” “flag,” or “marble” patterning depending on how the color breaks across each leaf. The species itself is native to the rainforests of northern South America, including Venezuela, Guyana, and Trinidad, where it grows as a rosette-forming epiphyte or terrestrial understory plant in warm, humid, shaded conditions, and it was named in honor of English botanist William Jackson Hooker of Kew Gardens. Unlike the species type, the pink variegation is not a wild trait but a mutation that surfaced in cultivation, likely within the last decade or so amid the broader rare-aroid collecting boom; because variegated tissue lacks chlorophyll. Culturally it wants the same warm, humid rainforest conditions as its wild relatives, temperatures in the 65–85°F range, humidity above 60%, and a rich, well-draining aroid mix.
