Anthurium ‘Wonderboy’ × ‘Michelle’ pairs two cultivars with intertwined but distinct origins, parent pictured in background. ‘Wonderboy’ came from the late Tim Anderson of Palm Hammock Estate, who crossed Anthurium crystallinum, magnificum, dressleri, and regale over many generations with no formal records, producing one of the earliest velvet-leaf Anthuriums to show red veining and reddish emergent foliage. ‘Michelle’ was bred by Dr. Jeff Block (DocBlock) and named after his wife, Michelle; its lineage traces back to a unique Colombian Anthurium magnificum accession originally attributed to Anderson’s stock, but Block refined it himself through roughly four generations of breeding and thousands of seedling selections, and the cultivar won “Best New Flowering Plant” at the 2022 Tropical Plant International Expo. So this cross unites Anderson’s foundational velvet-leaf genetics with Block’s more deliberately refined selection line, which is why offspring reliably show burgundy-to-violet emergent leaves maturing to dark, velvety green with bold white-to-pink venation.
