Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ (also spelled ‘Jaclyn’) Aurea Variegated is the trade name long used in the U.S. houseplant market for what botanists have since formally described as Alocasia tandurusa, the plant circulated under the ‘Jacklyn’ moniker for years before taxonomic work settled its scientific identity. The species is native to Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it grows as a terrestrial understory plant in warm, humid, well-draining tropical forest conditions, and it’s known in habitat for its bold, deeply lobed, almost antler-shaped leaves with prominent dark veining and her distinctive silhouette that sets it apart from rounder-leafed Alocasia relatives. The Aurea Variegated form is a mutation that emerged in cultivation, layering irregular golden-yellow to cream marbling across the rich green leaf surface for a glowing, high-contrast effect that varies leaf to leaf, making every specimen somewhat one-of-a-kind. Compared to many fussier jewel Alocasias, it has a reputation among growers as a relatively vigorous, forgiving grower that sizes up quickly given bright indirect light, warm temperatures (68–86°F), high humidity (60%+), and a well-draining aroid mix kept lightly moist, though as with any variegated form, the aurea sectoring needs strong light to stay stable and reduces the plant’s overall vigor compared to fully green specimens.

TC plants are grown in a laboratory environment on nutrient-rich agar and have not yet been acclimated to greenhouse or household growing conditions. Upon receipt, buyers will be responsible for the acclimation process, including removal from the culture media and transition to appropriate humidity and growing conditions.
